Death anniversary of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan:
Moment marks the 67th death anniversary of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, a deified figure known as “ Baba-e-Sahafat ”( father of journalism).
Born in 1873 in Sialkot, he wasn't just an prestigious pen, minstrel, and intelligencer but also a crucial leader in the Pakistan Movement.
Maulana Zafar Ali Khan’s benefactions to the country are flashed back and celebrated by people from all walks of life.
Graduating and latterly serving as the Secretary to Nawab Mohsin- ul- Mulk in Bombay, he employed his pen as a important tool in the freedom movement, fostering nationalism in the Muslim community.
His part as the father of Urdu Journalism is commemorated for its significance. After working as a translator in Hyderabad Deccan and rising to the post of Secretary Home Department, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan returned home in 1909.
He took over as the Editor of the Urdu review ‘ Zamindar, ’ which gained immense influence but faced bans and press confiscations due to its revolutionary programs.
Maulana Zafar Ali Khan laboriously shared in the All India Muslim League’s periodic sessions and supported judgments that led to the establishment of the League. He played a pivotal part in colorful panels, including the Reforms Committee and the expression of Muslim representation in legislative bodies.
Throughout his life, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan remained deeply engaged in politics. In addition to his political trials, he showcased his bents as a minstrel, lecturer, and essayist.
His poetry, characterized by religious and political sentiments, has been published in notable works such as ‘Baharistan,’ ‘Nigaristan,’ and ‘Chamanistai1.’
Maulana Zafar Ali Khan’s literary legacy includes works like ‘Ma’arka-e-Mazhab-o-Science,’ ‘Ghalba-e-Rumi,’ ‘Sayr-e-Zulmat,’ and the opera ‘Jang-e-Roos-o-Japan.
‘ He continued to contribute actively to the Khilafat Movement and served as a Member of the Central Legislative Assembly from 1937 to 1945, later being re-elected as a Muslim League Member in 1946.
On November 27, 1956, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan passed away, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that extends beyond journalism, politics, and literature.
